Improvements To Make & Finally Videos Of Our Practical!

After the feedback we received from our peers and teachers we have listed the changes we are going to make to our tasks to improve them and hopefully come out with the best grade possible:

Male Advert: Add voiceover "Amo Tu Vida" at the end ( we did want to do this but didn't have enough time)

Female Advert: "Amo Tu Vida" at the end ( we did want to do this but didn't have enough time) try and change the font at the end to something more classy, but this proved difficult to do when I tried to on my practical last year!

Sponsorship: Add shots of Minty spraying the perfume on her, and edit the images that contain the lipstick as it could be perceived as advertising make up.

Radio: We didnt have any feedback on this, but we are pretty pleased with how it sounds so won't be making any changes, if we do make any we will blog what we have changed and why :)

I have finally managaged to add videos of our media to youtube although because it wouldnt regonise the file i had to chnage it on a strange website which is why there is writing across the video this isnt normally here! It did take me hourssss and hours to work out how to do this btw!

Comments much appreciated :)

We will make the improvements listed as above and then upload our final piece :)

Feedback On Our Practical From Teachers

(Level 4 being the best, 1 being the worst)

Sponsorship Advert
High Level 2 - very effective use of music, fast pace and editing. There is too much focus on the Mac lipstick and pink lipstick - this would be a better advert for Mac makeup! You should see the product in action through the girl at least spraying the perfume.

Girl Advert
Low Level 3- Great use of lighting and well filmed and edited. Consider a voice over at the end and try to change the titles to something more elegant/sophisticated.

Boy Advert
Level 3 - very good - snappy editing, appropriate music and again, well filmed. Add a male voice over and title at the end.

Radio
Unfortuntly our radio advertisment was on a different mac to the rest of our practical and we forgot to mention this so we have no feedback on this.

Feedback On Our Practical

Female Advert:
:) Clear shots, good colour scheme, mise en scene is good and suits audience, sterotype of girl in advert is good, music is well suited to the advert.

:( One shot isn't cut right, doesn't flow with continuity, font at end "Amo Tu Vida" could be more feminine, have voice over at end sayin Amo Tu Vida.

Male Advert:
:) Music fits well, shots are really good and link together, editing is really effective.

:( perfume bottle isn't great, writing could be more original and a bit slower, make perfume shots brighter - they look too dull.

Sponsorship:
:) good music, female suits the product well

:( could have image of programme sponsoring

Unfortuntly our radio advertisment was on a different mac to the rest of our practical and we forgot to mention this so we have no feedback on this, however we know it is 100% full marks ;)

Final Deadline, Complete Lie!

After stressing like crazy this week to complete all our practical tasks we were told today that the final deadline was only for our first draft and completed coursework isnt in until the end of jan 2010! So we got feedback from the rest of our class about our practical tasks and will blog later to show their postive and negative responses :)

Monday 14 December 2009

Coursework Completed!

On friday we finally completed our practical :)

Female Advert: We used Eve Chesterton, in the setting of a bedroom, Mise en scene included make up, clothes and feminine objects. Music was uploaded onto the film.

Male Advert: We used Jamie Hives & Liam Richards in a coverted garage, mise en scene consisted of poker chips, playing cards, velvet chairs and objects associated with wealth and class. Music was uploaded onto the film.

Sponsorship: We used Araminta Maloy on a white background and had fast paced shots up close ups of her face and then back to a shot of the fragrance and pearls - an object we wanted to be assocaited with our product. Music was uploaded onto the film.

Radioship advert: We used the voice over of Heather Jordan and Connor Stanhope, with quiet music played throughout. The script can be seen in a previous blog.

Things That Didnt Go To Plan...

Our practical is now looking pretty good :) however some changes have been made from our storyboard...

1. We couldn't use Araminta as she was always unavailable when we needed to film, so we used Eve Chesterton which we were really grateful for as we know she had a lot of pressure to complete her media for the deadline to!

2. We also didn't use the male we intended to use, Kyle is Mintys boyfriend but when we needed to film they were having a bad patch so we decided to use Jamie Hives or Liam Richards, we took them both filming to see who would fit best into the genre of the advert and decided to use them both instead, we have made a storyboard of this which we have uploaded to the updated storyboard post!

3. It isn't shown on the updated storyboard but we added text clips in between clips. They said Dare To Play. We added them in to break up the quick shots.

4. Knowing how hard it was to get the characters when we needed them, to get 2 characters at the same time would of have been literally impossible and therefore we completely changed our storyboard for the sponsorship so it meant that we didn't have to rely on other people. So to make up for this we paid close attention to detail within the mise en sccene.

Tv Sponsorship Filming

Knowing how hard it was to get the characters when we needed them, to get 2 characters at the same time would of have been literally impossible and therefore we completely changed our storyboard for the sponsorship so it meant that we didn't have to rely on other people. So to make up for this we paid close attention to detail within the mise en sccene.

We laid out an image that included all the things we have previously mentioned such as pearls, hearts, sequins, and make up. This follows the idea we previously had of associating a certain object, such a perls, with the fragrance. This is shown on a blog we added in which you can see the Toyota car covered in tennis balls consequently linking these to the product.

We began by creating the image by laying out the perls in various patterns including hearts and swiled shapes reflecting the gentle feminine image we wanted to portray. We then went on to go into more detail picking out the smaller images we did this by using small silver hearts surounding the biger hearts. Other things we added to image were make up items, we used the colour pink as our back groud so we followed this theme by putting in pink blushers and lip gloss's again relefing the girly image.

Finally the main focus of the iamges was the perfume that was surounded by all of the smaller details. We then went on to take the shots. These were still images so we took advantage of the detail by take lots of close ups from differnt angles that including the perfume. We tried to do these as low angle shots to create the idea of the perfum bottle being really big, but this didnt look very effective and it made it look to unrealstic and we wanted to give this advert a natural look.

We then went on to take the shots of female actress these were also almost still shots that included closes ups of her eyes opening and closing, her smile and other feature such as her hair.

Male Advert Filming

We began by clearing the area. Once had moved everything to get a clear back ground, white doors, we began to create the mise en scene. As you can see from our story boards we didnt want to make it too complicated there for the shots just contained to chairs back to back. The chairs being red and gold creating the image of power which was also somthing we wanted to achive.

Filming...

We took our story board with us and filmed shot by shot as we originally planned. We had a few difficulties try to film poker chips we wanted poker chips in staks to look like the got high and lower with out some one touching them. Firstly we tried to this by leaving the camera running and film for 30 seconds then swap the height of the stacks then do it again. Incase this doesnt work we did it again turning the camera of each time, this appeared to run more smoothly but we will see how easy it edit later on in the week. Another problem we had was the lighting. When we made our first story bord we wanted to use dimmed lighting whit the use of strobe lights. We attempted to do this but the school camera did not allow this as the it appeared to dark, so when we up loaded them onto the makes the fotage would be clear enough to use.

Shots we thought worked well...

We really liked snooker ball shots of the balls breaking and scatering across the table so we took advanteg of this a toook it from different angles so we could repate the shots when it came to editing. Becuase these shots worked so well we filmed the poker chips agian droping them into the shot, because whiel we here we had the idea that we could reverse this when editing.

Updated Storyboards

After seeing other peoples blogs and how there storyboards were looking we decided ours weren't up to the best standard and re did them :) we also took into account changes we had/knew we would make in filming and added/changed this to our original ones.

To Do List..

Pre Production:
> Storyboards are complete, updated ones have been uploaded.
> Need to arrange a time this week when we are both free for a few hours to just crack on with filming.

Post Production:
> We have started to edit our female advert on iMovie, but need to add music to it.
> We then need to film and upload footage and edit this, thinking about it logically the deadline is in 2 weeks and we wont have enough time to edit in just lessons, so we need to edit in our own time - eg break and lunch.

Distribution:
> I don't know how to, but have seen on other peoples blogs that they have uploaded their practical to youtube and blogged it. I need to know how to do this so I can show improvments we make to it.

So.. We have nearly finished the female advert, just need to add music, we have recorded the radio advertisment, just need to upload it. The male advert and sponsership still need to be filmed, unfortuntly Sarah has pantomine rehearsals after school every day and is off time table so we really need to get our skates on this week!

Stereotypes

What is a stereotype? A simplified representation which focuses on certain characteristics of a group and assumes these to be shared across all group members.

How does the media use stereotypes? To communicate complex information about a character, time, period, location as quick as possible.

Tessa Perkins: "Stereotypes usually have an element of truth in them which makes them plausible"
I agree with this statement because to be a "dumb blonde" you need to have a certain elements about you, such as ditzy, blonde, attractive, fun, such as the character from Legally Blonde.

Positive representations are call corrective stereotypes or counter types where the representations are trying to create new ideas about a previously stereotyped group.
Contemporary culture has become more aware of stereotypes and the effects they have, particularly negative ones.

Many media texts have attempted to construct new approaches to old stereotypes.

The Male Gaze

The Male Gaze was a theory proposed by Laura Mulvey in the 1970s. It refers to how an audience will look at images of people within a media text.

It can be described as feminist, reference to the voyeuristic way in which men look at women.

Johnathan Scroeder 1998 - " To gaze implies more than to look at, it signifies psychological realtionship of power, in which the gazer is superior to the object of gaze."

This theory could be criticized for failure to take into account for female spectators, and only focuses on hetrosexual people, not homosexual.

The Male Gaze could fit into our advert because our adverts are aimed to be seductive to make the audience want to buy it, men could watch the female advert and buy the product hoping their wife will wear the fragrance and look like the character, or may watch the male advert and inspire to be like him. Vice versa for the female watching the advert.

Monday 16 November 2009

So Far..

We are always keeping on top of our blogs, and after the long process of all the planning and research finally began to film! We filmed the female advert, although had a big problem that Minty was unable to film the day we planned, and we decided we had to crack on so changed our character, Eve Chesterton is now the model for the female fragrance advert. We then started to edit the shots we had of Eve but still have a fair bit to do. Our next practical lesson we are hoping to film the male advert and radio advertisment :)

Is Memento A Postmodern Film?

Memento, to an extent could be described as a postmodern media text. Lennie has to create and keep re creating his identity. Lennie makes himself up everyday to the person he wants to believe he is. He maintains a system of notes, photographs, and tattoos to record information about himself and others, which is in actual fact just creating his identity.

Memento

Memento is a 2000 psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan.Leonard was a former insurance fraud investigator searching for the man he believed raped and killed his wife. Leonard has short term memory loss, which he developed as a result of the severe head trauma during the attack on his wife. To cope with his condition, he maintains a system of notes, photographs, and tattoos to record information about himself and others, including his wife's killer. He is aided in his investigation by Teddy and Natalie neither of whom he can trust.

The story is told in a non linear narrative, the story is told in two narratives, one in colour, the other in black and white. The black and white sections are told in chronological order, showing Leonard on the phone in a motel room. Leonard's investigation is shown in the color sequences that are in reverse chronological order. By reversing the order, the audience are unaware of the previous events, just like Leonard.

At the end of the film the two narratives merge into one sequence that begins as black and white and fades into color. The audience then come to realise that although Lennies wife was raped, she survived the attack and Lennie had already killed the man that raped her a year ago with the help of teddy. Lennie's wife had diabetes and he in actual fact killed her by overdosing her on insulin, due to his condition of short term memory loss. Lennie tells this sotry through a made up character (Sammie) who the audience finally realise is actually Sammie. Teddy wanted to help Lennie get his revenge on the rapist of his wife so allowed Lennie to kill him, but Lennie then forgot he had killed him and still searches for him not knowing he is already dead. Teddy allows him to still look for the rapist, so Lennie actually kills other people such as drug dealers.

Solving The Problem..

Because we can not use the some of shots from our last filming sesion we have planed to complete this on monday 16th and we will also take this opportunity to do some practice shots of the sponsership advert.

Editing

After doing our filming we thought everything had ran smoothly, unfortunatly not.
We connected the camera to the mac and inported our filming, we realised that we had not quite wound all the way foward to the right point of the tape so the first shots were not use able other than that every thing was fine.

We had a fade effect on all of our shots which you can not turn of so we started by cutting all of them out of the shots then where we have repated the some shots and selected the best then deleted the others.

That was as far as we got in this lesson but we plan to complete the advert on our next practical lesson.

Thursday 12 November 2009

Got The Ball Rolling...

Our aim: for this filming session we aimed to get as many shots as possible so that we did not have to come back to this advert again

we definatly reached our aim today. finally we have started our filming and we have filmed 40 minuets worth of shots for the female advert. it went really well we followed the story bord as well as adding other shots in as we went along because we felt we needed abit more varity. we didnt have any problems so hopfully when we upload the tape we can start editing straight away.

before we started we had to set up the mise en scene. as we could not use the original bedroom we wanted to we had to improvise. We got lots of dresses and hung them up around the room, we added through pillows to the bed to make it look more glamorous and kept every thing looking really girly. i tried to get some picture of this but i had problems with my digitel camera but the pictures below are where we got our insperation from so this is some idea of what it looked liked.

Thursday 5 November 2009

Representing Gender

The Representations of men and women can never illustrate the 'truth.'
This is true because not all men and women in society will conform to their gender stereotype, some women within the family have a higher income job and they are therefore the breadwinner and the male is the child bearer.

Hollywood mainly operate in gender binary opposites.
I disagree with this, because when thinking about celebrities in Hollywood such as Paris Hilton, although she is criticised for not working at all and using all her fathers wealth, she does have her own business of products such as fragrance and make up, which isn't stereotypically correct for a female to have her own business. However, the richest people in the world such as Bill Gates are all men and have their own business which is operating to the gender binary opposites.

Gender can only be understood in relation to the culture that produces it.
This is true, our culture means we are brought up the norms and values are the society we are in, gender stereotypes may be represented differently from someone who is a Christian to someone of an Asian culture.

Gender stereotypes are a useful way of understanding culture.
Yes, the environment, religion, clothes and food we associate with in our culture are useful in understanding how men and women are expected to act in the society, this may change within cultures.

Collective Identity

Collective Identity is a group of identites that share or are motivated by at least one common interest. Identity is who you are, how you see yourself and how how others see you through your appearance, attributes, experiences, clothing, rituals.

Area's that make up ones collective identity are:
>Gender
>Ethnicity
>Religion
>Nationality
>Age
>Sexuality
Social class
>Disability
>Celebrity
>Family
>Education

The media such as magazines, films, newspapers, mysic and soaps have an influene/impact on identity.

David Buckingham (2008)
Describes identity as something that distinguishes us from other people. However it also implies a relationship with boarder collective identities or social group, people with the same interests for example will be similar because of this shared interest however their other interests and beliefs will make them individuals.
This contraditcion makes identity complicated to define.

Fragrance Packaging

After reading hollies blog about the perfume bottle i thought i would blog some of my own ideas. I have had a look around my house and i have found an old abercrombie and fitch bottle that i think would work well for the male advert as on the front of it there is an image of a toned male body, this reflects the image of our character in the advert and the audiance we are trying to attract.

But after analysing this i realised it would be more effective to have matching bottle for the male and female on one bottle that is more uni-sex here are some ideas below.

I think this could work well as the uni-sex bottle. The use of detailed delicate writing links to the female side and the black colouring links to the more masuclin look. i will continue this research then show hollie and see what she thinks :)

Sunday 25 October 2009

Fragrance Packaging

We have decided on the name for our fragrance, Amo Tu Vida, and now need to know what we will use for the bottle of the fragrance. We were thinking to use an empty bottle of fragrance, in a clear glass and cut the letterings of the fragrance out and stick it onto the bottle.

Saturday 24 October 2009

Filming

Due to our characters taking a longer holiday than planned we unfortunately couldn't film. We now have to wait until monday when they arrive home and have planned a timetable for filming, which will commence this week :)

Friday 23 October 2009

Postmodernism & Pulp Fiction Intertextuality

Media reality is the new reality. We no longer have any sense of the difference between real things, images of them, or real experiences and simulations of them. Representations are re interpreted and played around with through pastiche and intertextual references. People will deliberately expose the text as constructed to tell the audience that the piece is not real and it never pretends to be real at any point, they don't try and hide the fact the media text is constructed. An example of this is in Quentin Tarantino's film 'Kill Bill' the mise en scene shows the audience that this is a film and not real life. There is a childs painting on the wall which is meant to be a "doodle" but indicates splattered blood. The cereal is called "kaboom" showing the audience a gun exposion may happen. The spraying blood is over exaggerated. The camera shot in which it shows a birds eye view, shows the audience it is a film set because the angle shows there is no room of the house.

Pulp Fiction (1994) directed by Quentin Tarantino tells the story of hitmen linked into different stories. The criticism for this film has been that because the film makes so many intertextual references it is so sly and knowing that it doesn't seem 'real' it feels/looks like a construction. Does this make Pulp Fiction postmodern?

Jules quoting from the Bible is reminiscent of Robert Mitchum's character quoting from the Bible in Night Of The Hunter (1955 Charles Laughton)

Mia's haircut styled after Louise Brooks in Pandora's Box (1928 G.W. Pabst)

Marilyn Monroe's skirt flying up over a subway grating in The Seven Year Itch (1955 Billy Wilder)

The weapons that Butch considers before saving Marcellus:
Hammer—The Toolbox Murders (1978)
Baseball bat—Walking Tall (1973)
Chainsaw—The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The moment where Butch is waiting at a crossroads in his car has his path crossed by Marcellus Wallace is a direct reference to the moment in Psycho (1960 Alfred Hitchcock) when Marion Crane sees her boss walk in front of her car after fleeing from him, having stolen $40,000.

Filming

We managed to get a camera out for half term, but unfortunately our characters are on holiday together until tuesday. So we are now hoping to film either wednesday or thursday :)

Radio Advertisment

This is our final script for our radio advertisment, We will be using Minty and Kyle's voice's because we feel they give a flirtacious tone without sounding immature. Our advertisment would be broadcasted on stations such as radio one and leicester sound, because this is what our target audience listens to. This script can create an image through words as you will only be able to hear voices and not see anything. The fact that the words are also layered adds more detail to the advertisment making it more interesting and exicting to listen to.

Trevor Millum

Trevor Millum studied women magazine adverts, and distinguished these forms of attention:

> attention directed towards other people
> attention directed to an object
> attention directed to oneself
> attention directed to reader/ camera
> attention directed into middle distance, as in a state of reverie
> direction or object of attention not discernable (cant make it out).

Relationships between those depicted:

> reciprocal attention- directed at each other
> divergent attention- directed at different things
> object-oriented attention- both looking at the same thing
> semi-reciprocal attention- attention of one person is on the other, whose attention is elsewhere.

Filming

Tomorrow we are going to book a camera out to have over half term, due to our school timetables, we are only able to film during media as we have no "study supports" the same. Minty is also at school and Kyle works full time so we are hoping to book one out over half term for next week so we have plenty of opportunities to film.

Monday 12 October 2009

Everything So Far..

Our planning and research for our media is now pretty much complete and we are now ready to start filming. This blog just clarifies our final ideas.

Product: Fragrance. Amo Tu Vida.

> Male Advert:

Audience: We are aiming our product towards young adult men aged, 18-25. The advert has to give a freash edgy look, so they are intrigued by the advert and want to buy the product.

Character: Kyle Gibson. We want him to give the image of class, and we have a few shots of him topless which will inspire the audience to want to be like him. We want the audience to want to have his whole image and know they will only achieve this if they wear our product. The girl will also appear in 2 quick shots, so they can associate both adverts together.

Costumes: We will have him in quite extreme costumes, such as black and white suit, topless shots and wild hair. This contrasts the basic white background he will be shot against.

Location: We are using a converted garage, which will be on a white background. Our mise en scene will include pool table, dice and money.

Music: We are using the track from freeplaymusic.com. Candyflip

Lighting: Dimmed and stobe lights to create a sexy atmosphere. The advert will have the black and white effect throughout.

> Female Advert:

Audience: Similar to our male advert the audience will be ages 18-25 but female.

Character: Arraminta Maloy. Her beauty and elegance will be used to portray this image of our fragrance. We want her personality to connect with the audience so they have a feeling of warmth towards her and inspire to look and be like her. Only being ablt to do this by wearing the perfume. Like the male advert, with an appearence of the other character, Kyle will also be shot in this advert.

Costumes: Minty will be dressed in glamourous outfits, such as prom dresses, sequin shorts and high heels, to really make and impact on the audience watching.

Location: This will be filmed in a luxurious bedroom, Mise en scene containg make up, straighteners, a car and feminine objects sich as flowers and rose petals.

Music: We are using the track from freeplaymusic.com. For Real Life

Lighting: Set in a bedroom, we are hoping to beable to achieve a warm orange glow from the wallpaper and furniture.

> Tv Sponsership Advert:

We will be sponsoring Americas next top model because the programme reflects what our product is, beauty, glamour and wealth.

Audience: People who watch Americas next top model, such as young female adults.

Character: Both Minty and Kyle will be shot together in this advert, a intimate atmosphere will be created.

Costumes: We have chosen to keep their costumes the same as what they wear in their main advert, so the audience can easily associate who they are.

Location: This will be set in modern, neautral decorated room.

Music: We will be using music we have made on garage band.

Lighting: Like the male advert lights will be dimmed to portray a passionate image.

> Radio Advertisment:

We have now uploaded our script ideas for this.
The music we are using the track from freeplaymusic.com. Black & White

Radio Advertisment

Here are some ideas we have come up with for our radio advertisment.

Young & Rubicam

Dr Maslow was studyed monkeys (1969) He found that monkeys always made sure they weren't thirsty before they looked for shelter and always made sure they found shelter before finding a companion. He then went on to study humans, and he found humans acted the same was as monkeys, for example humans wouldnt worry about love until they felt secure.
What became of this was, Dr Maslows hierachy of needs.

Young and Rubican researched on where people stood in the differernt catogories.
The hierachy of needs accepted that people from different cuntries were influenced by their culural background. They therefore named it the Cross Cultural Consumer Characterisation. (4Cs) for short. This puts people into one of 7 groups, depending on their motivation:

The Explorer is driven by a need for something new. Often the first to try out new ideas and experiences. Their core need for live is discovery.

The Aspirer is driven by other people's perception rather than their own opinion. This could be what other think of their appearence, fashion and personality. Their core need for life is status.

The Succeeder has self confidence and are organised. They feel they deserve the best reward given. They have an aggressive attitude to life and need to sometimes relax. Their core need for life is control.

The Reformer has independent judgement. They are often perceived as being intellectual and pride themselves on tolerence. Their core need for life is enlightenment.

The Mainstream are the largest group within the 4C's. They are the mainstream of society, in the domestic world. They respond to big established family brands. Their core need for life is security.

The Struggler lives for today and no plans for tomorrow. Often binges on alcohol and junk food. There only chance in life would be if they won the lottery. They seek escape.

The Resigned are mostly the older generation who's values have been built up over time. They act in traditional ways and their aim in life is to survive.

The relevent catogories that link with our advert are the aspirer, explorer and succeeder.

When I took the quiz on www.4cs.yr.com/diys to see what type I was. I got these results:

Thursday 8 October 2009

Theory

Key Concepts:
1) Representation
2)Language and forms
3) Audience
4) Narrative
5) Genre
6) Institutions
7) Values and Ideologies

Representation- how will our characters be presented to the audience in our adverts?
We want them to represent beauty, wealth and glamour in a lifestyle.

Language and forms- how our characters will represented as the way they are.
> Evidence from text will allow us to do this
> e.g mise en scene - the lighting, props and costumes.
> Camera angles chosen to represent the character and product.
> Both non diagetic and diagetic music we use.
> Dialogue

Audiences - How will how product affect the audience and make them feel.
> We want sterotypes and lifestyles to be recognised.
> We want the audience to buy our product to have to gain some sort of rapport with them to do this, so they feel they can trust the credibility in the product.

Narrative - Who will be telling the story of the advert?
> Will dialogue dominate or music?
> Music will dominate our main adverts, tv sponsorship will have a variety of both and the radio will be mainly dialouge.

Genre - does our fragrance fit into the generic convention of fragrance adverts?
> Are they recogniseable features? We use black and white theme, and portray glamour as an image
> Do we in any way challenge established conventions?

Storyboard Tv Sponsorship

We had planned our tv sponsorship, storyboard is shown in blog a few days ago, but after talking about it today we have changed our minds and produced a new storyboard because our idea is now totally different. The idea is that we have really fast shots from many different angles to give the advert lots of detail within a shot space of time. Each shot that you see of the two characters are images of them getting closer together, inbetween these you will see shots of there clothing, the perfum and close ups of thier face. layered writing will be put over the image of the perfume that will fade up to become clearer as you see more shots of it.

Promoting Our Product

After looking through our older posts i have relaised we have not officially stated what our product is and as we now finalising most of our ideas i thought we would need it, so here it is.

Our product is a perfume called 'Amo tu vida' one for him and one for her, the perfume is a not just a beautiful scent but when wearing this perfum you will create an image for self, which is one of style, class and sexyness.

we will be promoting this product through two adverts, one for the male perfume and one for the female perfume. we will also be using a sponsership advert featuring both the male and female, which will sponser the television pragamme americas next top model, this programme is all about the way you look as is our perfume therefore they will link well together. then finally we will be doing a radio advertisment to help promote our product.

Music

Today i went onto Mrs Hammonds blog and found lots of uncopyrighted music sites so went onto a few and found some sounds that would fit into well of our male advertisment criteria:

This first track is quite upbeat and club music although i dont think it will fit into our male advert. We want really fast upbeat music to fit into the shots and fast pace, which will keep the audience watching, but this track seems to "party like". I dont know if we could download it and then upload it onto garage band and change the rhythm of it. I will look into this and update it.

I came across these 3 albums which have a sexual feel to them, some of them wouldnt work at all with our advertisments although i have picked out a few of the tracks that could perhaps work:

Track 3 Track 5 track 7 track 11

track 1

Characters

Here are some photos i have taken testing different shots and colour scemes that would be effective to use on our main girl character, Minty, she will be featured in both the adverts and the sponsorship advert. The first image signafies the look and style of what our perfume can give to you, this is the type of look we will go for when doing the female advert, where as the second image is somthing we would use for the sponsership advert depending on what programme we sponser.

The image below is a photo of the male character kyle, this is who will be used to create a male advert and posible be used in the sponsorship advert. He gives the advert class and a sense of edge to it.

Storyboard Tv Sponsorship

This is our completed storyboard for the Tv advertisment. We have taken the idea of the characters lying in a glamourous setting, with pearls dropping, associating this with the product. The characters will be lying on the bed, a high angle shot to show this and then a flash to the perfume with pearls around it (mid shot). The flash back to the bed shot with pearls now falling onto the bed. Flash back to the perfume. The characters then on the bed with the perfume on the bed with the perfume protecting it. A close up will be showed of the perfume. Music will be played throughout. We will upload photos of the setting as soon as possible.

Radio Advertisment

i have been listening to some radio advertisment and i have noticed that what we have to do is make it as interesting as possible with many discribing words, i had the idea of vocal collage with all diffent male a female voice layerd with dicribing words the represent our perfume i have given some examples in the word cloud below;

i think this will be effective because these discriptive words put an image in the listeners head created by the words used, and hopfully these would be the right words to create the right image we are trying show.

i thought about how we could do this and i think it would work well if some of the words are said separatly then they gradully start to layer over each other repeating the words untill it creates a vocal callege, then it would come to a sudden stop and the name of the perfume would be said by the boy and the girl at the same time, then the boy would say for him and girl would sat for her.

Tv Sponsorship Advert

After showing Sarah the blog I posted the other day, analysing the Sponsorship adverts we went onto the apple mac and found that we are unable to do the 2 shots into one clip effect (jean paul advert) :( However, Sarah liked the peugeot advert with the tennis balls being associated and we had an idea to maybe assocaite our fragrance with pearls, we could perhaps have the 2 characters from our main adverts lying together in a sophisicated setting (perhaps a bed or sofa) such as these images below. The characters could be lying on the furniture together, with the fragrance on a cushion in the middle of them, as if they are protecting it, with pearls dropping from above. Just an idea sarah let me know your thoughts? Seems pretty simple but will hopefully look effective like the peugeot advert?

Female Music

we looked at clasical music but we found that they were all to slow and almost sounded depressed, although we did like the first sone on this album because it sounds soft and elegant which portrays feminism, which works well for a female advert obviously but becuase it is quite slow and many the tones or hollow and low the could make advert boring and seem as though it drags on therefore we will have to look for different websites to try and find different websites and a different style of music.

Male Music

Here is an album that we found on the website we have previously mentioned called 'jamendo'. The particular song we thought could be effective to use for our male advert is the song called 'The beach', we feel the up beat pace and the different layered sounds create morden and contempry music follwing our original ideas t5o create a moderen image with our advert. Throughout the song there is repatition of the same beat wich we feel will work well with the speed of the strobe light that we wanted to use in some of our shots.

Another song we would thoguht that would work well for the make advert is a song called 'sex style' this would be really good for our male advert aswell because the music kicks in with a really strong beat as soon as the song starts, this means it will grab the audiances attention as soon as the adverts begins making them imediatly making the interested in our advert and making the watch what the adverting is presenting. We also liked this song becuase the tempo is not too fast but still has a catchy pace therefore we will be able to edit our shots to mirror this again creating a more interesting advert to watch.

next we are going look for Female songs and report back :)

Tv Sponsorship Advert

This isnt a sponsorship advert but has inspired us for our tv sponsorship advert, i dont know if we can use the spilt screen effect on the mac?! help on this please. The split screen links in with the other shot, like the female hand on the male and i think this looks so good. It would have the male and female characters in, so would appeal to both sexes if they watched the programme. However, we need to find out first if we are able to split the screen effect. If so we will persue this idea for our sponsership advert.

Although this has nothing to do with our product we could perhaps sponsor a programme such as "katie and peter" because it is about celebrities, which creates the image of wealth and glamour which is what we want our product to portray. I think sponsoring a programme like this is actually a really effective idea and will fit in well to the criteria of the product.

I came across this sponsor advert, and although it is really simple to be firing tennis balls at a car, i think it is so effective and really makes you remember the product. If you think of tennis balls you then associate that with peugeot cars, which is the aim of the sponsor advert. I think we should do something really simple but associate it with an everyday object, so when people use it they think of our product. I will talk to sarah about this and then add to this idea if she likes it :)

Audience

in mrs hammonds lesson yesterday we did theory on who are target audiance is, although i have already done a short power point on this im going to look at it more in depth in this blog

firstly we learnt about the different social catogries in todays population;
Ca profesional, high earning people
Cb Middle managment, bank managers
Cc Jounier managment, shop manager
Cc2 skilled manual people, carpenter
Cd semi skilled or un skilled, cleaner
Ce unemployed, students

we found it hard to narrow down what social catorgry we are trying to appeal to as our product is somthing that apeals to alot of people. But we decided that the people we want to appeal to most are Ce to Cc this is because these people will be able to afford our product and will be looking for somthing that looks like a designer product with out the price tag where as Cb and Ca would be more likely to buy desinger labled procuct with the higher price tag.

this also links into the other things we learnt about what particualr group of the population our target audiance is from for example gardeners, students ECT. we decided that are main targert audiance are students are graduates going into the world of work who are on a budget but still want to take care of their apperance.

We also learnt about the demographic and geographic profile of our audiance, this dicibes where your target market is likely to be from and what there life style is like, we found to hard to say specifically where are audiance is from but we came up with a discription of there lifestyle;

they will be students or people who are leaving university or college ready to get a job or develope there qualifications, they would be people who take pride in there appearance, they would also be people who would like to be able to afford designer products be cant and therefore going for a product like mine and hollie's which gives the image of designer but is far cheaper.

all of these things helped us to finalise our ideas of the mise en scene for our advert, sponsership advert and radio advertisment. we will take all these things into consideration when creating our final setting, deciding on our final camera angles and music ideas :)

Music

www.jamendo.com this is a free uncopyrighted music website. We found it quite hard to find the type of upbeat rhythm we wanted on garage band. This website had loads of albums of peoples music, we wanted to put some examples of what we found and would consider using in our advertisments onto our blog, but didnt know how to do this without downloading the whole album, therefore in our next pratical lesson we will ask our peers and then hopefully upload some inspiring songs on here :)

Filming & Editing

After posting the blog of the Prada advert (the one where the character has been mirrored to create emphasis on the advert) we went onto the mac to see if we could do this effect and if so if it would look effective. It is possible to mirror shots, so we decided to go and film a shot of what we would like in our advert and see if it would work. We wouldnt use this effect through the whole advert, just a few shots. However, when we booked a camera out we realised we had no tape so will have to wait to our next practical lesson to do this. We will try and upload what we did onto the blog (if this is possible to do from the mac!?)

Characters & Location

We have decided our character for the female advert will be Araminta Maloy, and her boyfriend Kyle Gibson will be the character for the male advert. Both will make an appearence in the tv sponsorship advert. The locatin for the male advert will be in a converted garage, which we have chose because it has objects such as disco lights, pool tables and white walls, which will fit into what we want for our male advert. The basic location with an extreme character. Minty Maloy will be filmed in her bedroom, which is very luxurious setting which we want our fragrance to portray. Unfortuntly we have lost the lead to connect the camera we took the photos of the character and setting so this will be posted shortly! :)

Music

We have been on garage band and have found some quite good upbeat tempos (for male advert), but found it hard to find what we wanted for the female advert, so we tried some uncopyrighted music sites but found you had to pay for the songs. We then went onto youtube as a student at our school sings and plays the guitar, and thought we could perhaps use her.

However, the song is still copyrighted so even if she didnt sing, just played the guitar she would have to make a song. This could be quite complicated telling her exactly what we want and her trying to do it. We then thought about looking on peoples myspace music and asking them if we could use their songs. If not we will have to create something on garage band.
